The department of Pyrenees-Atlantiques is part of the Aquitaine region. It borders the departments of Landes, Gers and Hautes-Pyrenees, and Spain (Huesca province, Foral Community of Navarre, Gipuzkoa). It is bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Biscay.The Pyrenees crosses the department from east to west of the Col d'Aubisque to the ocean.
The department of Hautes-Pyrenees is in the Midi-Pyrenees region. It borders the departments of Pyrenees-Atlantiques, Gers, Haute-Garonne, and the province of Huesca (Spain). Three distinct natural regions comprise the High Pyrenean landscape:the mountains and valleys, hills and plains. The mountain, is to say the Pyrenees, covering to the south half of the territory of the county. It forms a natural barrier between France and Spain, allowing only one access road to Aragon by the tunnel-Aragnouet Bielsa. 35 peaks above 3 000 m and peak Vignemale at 3 298 m, is the culmination.
